I set a goal for myself this year to make one handmade Christmas ornament a month. Leaving me with 12 new handmade ornaments for our Christmas tree this year. I chose to do it this way because by the time Christmas comes around I find myself overwhelmed with everything. Every year I say I will begin making Christmas gifts in July. And every year I’m busy working away last-minute trying to get things done. And half of it remains incomplete or not even started. So instead, I am starting early. WAY early.

I was inspired by the book Falalala Felt to make this little blue bird. It’s based on the ‘little birds garland’. My printer is out of  ink so I couldn’t scan and enlarge the template in the back of the book. So instead I just winged it.

Please excuse the sloppy blanket stitch. It’s my first time using that stitch so it’s looking a little rough! Besides the sloppy stitching, I think it came out pretty cute! One ornament down,  eleven to go.

I came across this sweet vintage cardigan while searching on ravelry for an infant sweater to make for Sophie as a Christmas gift. I fell in love with it the moment I layed eyes on it and got started making it right away.

I ended up just using some yarn that I had on hand (bernat softee baby in pink & baby bee sweet delight in naked and teddy). The colors worked very well together and gave it a lovely neapolitan look. I would have loved to add some pretty vintage buttons, but unfortunately I am lacking in the cute button department. So I went with what I had.

After finishing it and trying it on Sophie it fit perfectly. My only wish would be that I would have added a tad bit more to the length so it would fit longer. I really enjoyed making it though and have no problem making another one once she grows out of it. I would also like to make one for her older sister as well. I’m thinking Spring cardigans. Not sure what colors I will go with. Perhaps something with aqua… ’cause I’m just lovin’ the aqua.

gifting

This year we’re on a very strict budget. We will attempt some Christmas shopping this weekend, but what to get everyone? This time of year can be so stressful. I really wish there wasn’t such an emphasis on gift giving.

These days it’s so easy to get caught up in the latest and greatest. And I’ll be the first to admit that there are quite a few gadgets that I would just love to get my hands on. But really, is that what Christmas is about?

This year I plan on making quite a few gifts. I don’t know about you, but I really love and appreciate a handmade gift. While making the few gifts I’ve already completed I can tell you that A LOT of thought went into them. And the person they are meant for were thought of while making it.

Since a lot of you follow this blog, I am limited on sharing photos. But I’ve been having so much fun with this one, I thought I’d give a little sneak peek!

I still have plenty of more gifts to finish up before the big day. And would you believe that I haven’t even made one thing for my own little munchkins? I’m hoping to finish a couple of dresses for Emma, a kitty doll, a dinosaur stuffy, and some lounge pants for Jacob.

Now, if only time would just slow down and give me a chance to get it all done…
