I drew this cute little russian nesting doll with the intention of embroidering it. I kept her simple. Very simple. Almost too simple now that I look at her…

Anyway, if you’re wondering how I turned this:

into this:

I’ll show you!

First you take your drawing (or embroidery transfer) and tape it to a window. I taped mine to my sliding glass door.

Then you will want to take your fabric and tape it over your pattern.

Next step, tracing! Most people use a fabric marker to trace embroidery patterns, since they are water-soluble and any visible lines will come off with a little bit of water. My fabric marker is gone and has been for a while now, thank-you Emma. So I just use a pencil. Whatever works, right?

After you have your whole pattern traced onto your fabric you are ready to start embroidering! Now that was easy, wasn’t it?

I plan on getting this image scanned into my computer very soon. And as soon as I do, I’ll be sure to share it with you!

I’ve really been enjoying the art of hand embroidery. To date I’ve only completed three projects: the first being the mushroom fabric that I embroidered with Emma’s name, the second a Christmas gift for a special someone, and the third a fun gnome and mushroom pattern!

This latest project was so much fun! I tinted the illustration with crayons using this tutorial from Aimee Ray of little dear tracks. The pattern was 100% free and can be found on her flickr page here.

I just love the way it turned out! And I enjoyed every bit of making it. I have a few more patterns, some purchased, some not, that I cannot wait to stitch up! I just need to figure out what to do with all of these pieces. Might I see some quilting in my future? If only I wasn’t so intimidated by it!

These days it’s so easy to get caught up in the latest and greatest. And I’ll be the first to admit that there are quite a few gadgets that I would just love to get my hands on. But really, is that what Christmas is about?

This year I plan on making quite a few gifts. I don’t know about you, but I really love and appreciate a handmade gift. While making the few gifts I’ve already completed I can tell you that A LOT of thought went into them. And the person they are meant for were thought of while making it.

Since a lot of you follow this blog, I am limited on sharing photos. But I’ve been having so much fun with this one, I thought I’d give a little sneak peek!

I still have plenty of more gifts to finish up before the big day. And would you believe that I haven’t even made one thing for my own little munchkins? I’m hoping to finish a couple of dresses for Emma, a kitty doll, a dinosaur stuffy, and some lounge pants for Jacob.

Now, if only time would just slow down and give me a chance to get it all done…
